John Scott (plaintiff) against John Waugh (defendant) regarding Scott’s status as an enslaved person based on the status of his mother, Nell, as an enslaved woman at the time of his birth. Nell was enslaved to Aaron Finley (deceased) and later his widow Margaret Finley, during which time her son John Scott was born. Margaret Finley sold Scott to William Waugh (deceased) and Scott was later enslaved by his son John Waugh on the execution of the will of his father.
