State v. Anderson, 1 N.J.L. 36 (1790)

New Jersey against Anderson (defendant) regarding Silas, an enslaved man. Silas’s mother Betty was sold along with Nelly, another enslaved woman, were previously enslaved to John Horsfield, who sold them two Anderson under the agreement that the two enslaved women would be freed after a term of fifteen years; during this term, Silas was born, and Anderson claims Silas as his slave. Decision: enslaved person released.
