Cadwallader v. Durham, 46 N.J.L. 53 (Sup. Ct. 1884)

Isaac Cadwallader, Overseer of the Poor of Ewing Township (plaintiff) against Jacob S. Durham, Overseer of the Poor of East Amwell Township (defendant) regarding the legal settlement and removal of Anna Mary Burroughs. Burroughs was the granddaughter of William Burroughs, who was born into slavery and enslaved to Samuel Edwards. Edwards eventually freed William Burroughs. Decision: judgement reversed.
