Russell v. Commonwealth, 1 Pen. & W. 82 (Pa. 1829)

James M. Russell (plaintiff) against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (defendant) regarding a request to bring Charity Brogden, a Black woman, before the court. Brogden was previously enslaved by Russell in the state of Maryland, and claimed her freedom upon a deed of manumission executed by Russell. Decision: writ quashed.
