State v. McDonald, 1 N.J.L. 332 (1795)

The State of New Jersey against M’Donald and Armstrong regarding the freedom of Black woman Phillis. Phillis was previously enslaved by Mrs. Hanna (deceased) and was allegedly freed upon the death of Mrs. Hanna, after which she worked for Mrs. Armstrong (daughter of Mrs. Hanna) as a free woman. Decision: enslaved person released.
