State v. Guild, 10 N.J.L. 163 (1828)

New Jersey against James Guild (defendant), who was enslaved to Joshua Bunn, regarding a confession to the murder of Catharine Beakes. When Beakes’ son Jonathan Vankirk went to work and her grandson went to school, Beakes died. Guild confessed to the murder of Beakes; the validity of this confession is the topic of this case. Decision: prisoner sentenced to execution.
