Commonwealth v. Hester, 1 Browne’s Reports 369 (Pa. Ct. Com. Pl. 1811).

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania against Hester (defendant) an enslaved woman accused of escaping from her enslaver Timothy Matlack. Hester was formerly manumitted from Matlack and enslaved to Thomas Murgatroyd, but she had escaped from Murgatroyd. She was later arrested and enslaved again to Matlack. Decision: prisoner discharged.
